All went well. We were even joking with the surgeon and nurses in post op recovery.
They took out her gallbladder. Image in reply for those squeamish about medical stuff. Have a car, first:

Kinja'd!!!

Apparently it's supposed to be much smaller and shaped sort of like an eggplant.

I'm surprised they let you see it. I got a bursa sack removed from my elbow a while back. I wanted to keep it in a jar, but they had to send it away for testing immediately after removal.

They did let me name it, though. I named it Peyton.

Bummer. Hope everything is okay now. I'm assuming the gallbladder isn't one of those things that "does nothing."

It dumps bile into your small intestine to help digest fats. Stones sometimes form and cause discomfort and pain - especially when they pass into the bile ducts. Hers was chock full of stones.

One of the attending nurses took the picture. Hospital regulations meant they had to take it to a pathologist and make sure it was not otherwise ill. We didn't get to keep the stones. My wife was upset about that. She said, "my gallstones aren't biohazards! There collectibles, dammit!"

Glad she's OK. On a side note, that is one of the best pictures of a 308 I have ever seen and makes me lust after one even more. hng.

Ouch. Diet changes and drugs to manage, or just one of the above?

Actually with the gall bladder out we can move back toward a more normal diet — just have to watch fat intake. Too much greasy food=severe diarrhea.
